Chris Niosco Lastrella

December 25, 1970 to August 28, 2009

Chris was born December 25, 1970, on Midway Island, District of Hawaii. He attended St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School in Vallejo, CA and he graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration at California State University, East Bay in Hayward, CA. Chris began his career at United Parcel Service in South San Francisco, eventually advancing to the position of operations supervisor. After 13 years at UPS, he worked as an operations manager at Cardinal Delivery and Logistics in Hayward. Chris then worked as a home mortgage consultant at a few financial companies with his last being Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in Vallejo. Most recently, he began a position as an enrollment advisor at Ashford University in San Diego, CA. Chris enjoyed a multitude of sports like snowboarding, golf and softball, though his real passion was playing, coaching and watching basketball. Over the past two years, Chris had been taking voice-acting classes to launch a new career. He recently went on a series of auditions to pursue his newfound craft.

Chris is survived by his parents, Cleto and Fe Lastrella; his sister, Cleo Toyooka (Paul Toyooka); his nephew Connor Toyooka; his brothers, Cliff Lastrella and Carl Lastrella (Tessie Guieb); his nephew and niece, Derrick and Makayla Celine Guieb-Lastrella; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.



Cleofe Lastrella Saylor

May 30, 1964 to August 28, 2009

Cleofe Lastrella Saylor was born on May 30, 1964 at Largoza Clinic in Nabua, Camarines Sur, Philippines. She grew up on Midway Island and in the San Francisco Bay Area. Cleofe attended James J. Hogan High School and graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry at the University of California, Davis. Throughout her career, she worked at various biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, including Calgene, IDEC, and lastly as a senior research associate at Ambrx in La Jolla, CA. A few years ago, Cleofe had also attained her real estate license and worked for Prudential California Realty in Chula Vista, CA. Additionally, she and her family were very active in the Bicol Club of San Diego County. For the past 8 years, Cleofe was the committee chairperson for the Scholastic and Achievement Awards, a scholarship program for the children of club members.

In 1995 Cleofe exchanged wedding vows with Mark Wesley Saylor at St. Catherine of Siena in Vallejo, CA. They were blessed with one daughter, Mahala Manda Saylor.

Cleofe is survived by her parents, Cleto and Fe Lastrella; her sister, Cleo Toyooka (Paul Toyooka); her nephew Connor Toyooka; her brothers, Cliff Lastrella and Carl Lastrella (Tessie Guieb); her nephew and niece, Derrick and Makayla Celine Guieb-Lastrella; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.



Mark Wesley Saylor

July 20, 1964 to August 28, 2009

Mark Wesley Saylor was born on July 20, 1964 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the son of John Saylor and Joan Robbins. Mark grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from Eureka High School in 1982. He enlisted in the Air Force. After his enlistment he was employed for 20 years by the California Highway Patrol. Always considered a good friend to those he knew, Mark enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. Later in life, he became friends with John Concepcion and Michael May.

In 1995 Mark exchanged wedding vows with Cleofe Niosco Lastrella at St. Catherine of Siena in Vallejo, CA. They were blessed with one daughter, Mahala Manda Saylor.

Mark is survived by his father, John L. Saylor, his stepmother Nancy Saylor; his mother Joan Robbins; his stepfather Barry M. Robbins; his aunts Linda Nickelson, Betty Simer, Barbara Tarahm, Helen Huber, Cindy Long and Deborah Harvey; and his uncles Jimmy Wilson and Donald Saylor.



Mahala Manda Saylor

February 1, 1996 to August 28, 2009

Mahala Manda Saylor was born on February 1, 1996, in San Diego, CA. The daughter of Mark and Cleofe Saylor, Mahala grew up in San Diego, CA. Like most children her age, Mahala had a number of interests. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. Mahala was an active child. She loved to play soccer. She participated in club soccer for several years and led her latest team as its co-captain. However, for Mahala, the most fun was simply playing and spending time with her friends.

Mahala enjoyed her time in school and was an excellent student. She started school at Southwestern Christian Elementary
and continued on to St. John’s Episcopal School. Mahala was due to start high school at Mater Dei Catholic High School
in the fall of 2009.

Mahala is survived by her maternal grandparents, Fe and Cleto Lastrella; her paternal grandparents Joan Robbins, Barry Robbins, John Saylor, and Nancy Saylor; her aunt, Cleo Toyooka (Paul Toyooka); her cousin Connor Toyooka; her uncles, Cliff Lastrella and Carl Lastrella (Tessie Guieb); her cousins, Derrick and Makayla Celine Guieb-Lastrella; and numerous grand-uncles, grand-aunts, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
